I have a '53 F100 and was thinking of putting a tilt front end on it. One of those fiberglass peices that is the hood and front fenders all in one. Does anyone have any input on these. I was concerned that without inner fenders the engine compartment would get really dirty. Thanks
So does that mean yes, the engine does get good and dirty?? I don't plan on driving in bad weather but even in good conditions I imagine a lot of dirt gets kicked up.
I am also assuming that there is no inner fenders with the tilt front end. I have not actually seen one installed (up close).
Yes, a lot of crap will wind up in the engine compartment even when you will use as I do, on nice days. Click on my Gallery and you will see a( Fairline) glass front one piece on a 54 F100. There are a few other members who have the same. It is not as simple as you might think. Jim VA.
Great pics Jim! Your dash looks great! I am having second thoughts about the tilt front end. I read some other threds on it and it does sound like a diff project. Maybe I will have better luck aligning my old hood. Thanks for the help
If you have some fabrication skills (and a welder) I didn't find it very hard to make my steel tilt nose. It did take some time and careful measurements. I modified the inner fenders and left them mounted in place to avoid the dirt problem in the engine compartment.
I've seen several sets of fabricated inner fenders at the Supernats... some that even look good... using Aluminum sheeting and nice square straight bends with one piece attached to the frame rail and the other glassed into the flip...
but lots of work to make it right... My Fairlane is still sitting in the corner waiting for the suspension work so we can start putting it back together.. not at all pleased with this near $1k doghouse that had to be taken apart... ground... sanded... strapped, glued and reworked just to get a 'decent' fit... I'm lucky I've got a fiberglass guru to help me... I'd have never done this alone...
my advice.??? find a boat repaiman...make friends and buy him all the beer he can drink (when he's not working on your hood ! )
