Can you wire an aftermarket fuel sender to the factory gauge and have it read correctly? I'm thinking of removing my cab fuel tank in my 1962 F250 4x4 for easier shifting with my prosthetic leg. I put in a different bench seat which helps some but with the cab tank removed I can move the seat back a few more inches which really makes a difference but whatever tank I replace it with I want to be able to read from the factory gauge. Any ideas? Thanks....Bob
The bench seat I have will definitely fit further back than the factory bench seat I took out. So let's clear that away now and get to the original question of wiring an aftermarket sender to the factory gauge. again the bench seat will truly give me more legroom so please forgo posting that I won't get any improvement. thanks..Bob
I would get a sending unit and hook it up to the gauge. Then move the float by hand and watch the gauge reading. You should be able to get it adjusted close. None of the senders in my two trucks, gives a full to empty reading.
What bench seat and hardware are you using?
Superior Unlimited in Tenn. made it to my dimensions . They specialize in lift truck and heavy equipment seating and made a bench seat for a T bucket I built and it worked out well. The seat came with threaded sliders so I just made my own frame to bolt to the factory floor mounts
Now for another part of the project... after I remove the in cab tank which is tall and narrow would I be able to use that tank's sender and adapt it to an in bed fuel transfer tank of similar dimensions to simplify wiring to the factory gauge? Bob

Yes, I did that on a project. Hard part for me was getting the empty/full stroke right. The tall tank has more up/down action than a horizontal so I set empty to E and full was about 1/2. I bet you can do better if you plan it out better than I did...
All the fuel gauges in the 60's and 70's were 10 ohms full 73 ohms empty. Just pick a car Mustang, Torino, full size etc. with the same depth tank and use that sender.
