So this procedure didn’t work completely. Drove the truck yesterday and last nite, I had no running lights in the rear and the step lights were on. The wire I tapped into is not the one that needs to be used. I definitely do not want the step lights on while using any lights. The f150 LEDS video setup is not as my setup for wiring is. I really don’t want to drill a hole in the floor pan. Mine does not have the plastic pass thru area as in the truck in the video. So I am not sure as what route to go with
Look on the frame close to the back of the cab location. There is a white plug there for the fancy auto-steps that is powered when the doors come open and go off when the door is shut. There should be one on both sides and it will be two wires going to those plugs, one blue-ish and one is white.
Just any FYI for anyone using the plugs that Willie shows, here's the other end to mate with them. I had a set of lights under my 2019 wired to them. I think they came on with puddle lights when the door was opened.
The plug was not there on a 2020 XLT that I had after that.
My 2021 XLT Premium did not have the frame plugs nor the plugs under the sill at least I couldn't find them anywhere. I ended up tapping into this dome light wire to install some side step lights. I found the correct wire in the passenger side door sill. I used this link for the wire color from the 12volt.com. I also used the floor grommets to pass the wires into the interior.
Here is what the plug in the front door sills looks like. Most seem to have this plug. This is what you need for running board lights. Comes on when you open the door or unlock the truck.
Yeah I couldn't find that interior plug anywhere on my 2021.
As far as the wire you show, I believe that is it if you are in the passenger side. I think I actually traced that plug terminal and ran back but you can just tap that wire first, I just used a t tap, and then test it with a meter to see if it comes on with your door/dome lights. That should be it if memory serves me correct.
