351 W ford casting numbers ??

I found a 351 windsor engine in a local junk yard. I would like to try to find out what it is maybe beforeI buy it. I have bought engines from the yard before and they seem honest. The story on the engine is that a dad brought the engine from ford as a crate engine and had it installed in his sons 1981 bronco. After the son wrecked the truck three times in a period of less then 90 days. The dad sold the truck to the yard after that. So now im going to look at the engine which is suspose to be a 351 crate engine,It has a alum intake & carb. The engine is not a injected one. Is there a web site were I can find maybe a list of casting numbers, that will tell what
the motor is besides a 351,like maybe horsepower rating. Im hoping to fit it into a 2001 Ranger p.u. with a little work. Mostlikey I will try to find some headers for it. Also I guess will leave the factory alum, intake and 4 barrel. But if you guys think going to a injected set up will be better. I have a complete injected setup from a 351 full size truck in my garage. If its better then the carb setup.

compare the intakes the 302 uses a narrower intake than the 351, measure the width of your efi 351 intake and compare. I think the 302 has a 7-9" wide intake and the 351 has an 11" I would go measure mine but its raining and I might melt. haha. Efi or carb really depends on you if you want hp now on a budget then keep the carb setup if you don't wish to make any major mods then go with your efi setup. If the motor has a stock cam with the aftermarket intake and carb figure a solid 210-220 hp at the crank and 320-330 tq those are stock figures and the additon of the intake won't make much of a difference until you start changing heads and cam, nothing great but would make for a nice motor in your ranger. Have the motor checked out in every way possible before you purchase sounds like whoever had it used and abused it over its short life, later, Good luck

If you can grab the long casting number and four character code under it near the starter and post it I don't know of a specific link but I or someone else should be able to let you know what you have. later
