Should I BUY
Should I BUY
Hi I’m a new member and probably got a question that everybody asked.
I have a opportunity to buy a 2004 super duty with a 6.0. Has 101K on it they don’t know if it’s been bullet proof. Is it worth buying? It will be replacing my 1992 7.3. Which I hate to get rid of but dreading the body work I have to do. Thanks

Are you comfortable with all aspects of vehicle repair and troubleshooting, or are you OK with the potential big bills involved to pay someone to do it (This would require a mechanic with decent knowledge of this powertrain.) Then of course is the price, the market right now is all over the place. The upside to this motor is there is a lot of information to be had for repairs. BulletProofed is a very relative term. One easy check is for head studs. If no head studs then I don't see how it could be considered "bulletProofed". 100K is a real nice number the bad thing is there is no way to know if it has had a tune and what kind of tune for that 100K. That being said if its had an easy 100K with proper maintenance and hopefully an EGR delete It might give another 100K problem free. Other than the Turbo vanes, they will start sticking at some point
Check out the tech folder, a lot of good info there and a tab for buying a 6.0 things to check Buying a USED 6.0L - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums (ford-trucks.com) Good luck, I bought mine ('04) with very little knowledge of the 6.0's at 167K, It had a couple minor issues initially and has failed me twice now in 20K miles due to a bad HPOP and then several hundred miles later debris in the IPR. It's finally starting to get my trust back however it still does something once in a while that never lets me be completely at ease.
One other consideration, the payload/towing ratings for the 04 F250 suck. If you're a by the numbers kind of guy a crew cab with a fat family of six and a bit of luggage doesn't leave hardly any room for tongue weight on a trailer. There's no reason for it either but it's how the numbers read.

Bought my first one in 1993 loved it
use it for light towing and
little bit around the farm
I just found out the truck has EGR delete but not bulletproof

The truck is 18 years old. That mean 5-6k miles a year. Someone either had a lot of problems with it or it was just a driveway ornament. Look into replacing the HPOP on the 6.0. Yes yes good fun. It all comes down to the price. I’d buy it for 3-4K
