I was thinking there was a connector under the can on the sides for just this purpose. I’ve never used it but I seem to remember the discussion. Might not be there on all builds.

There's a plug on bith sides of the frame right near the end of the cab. Those plugs are the power for the retractable running board. If you wanted a light to illuminate when the doors are opened, that would be your power source.
If you have the harness on the outside of the frame rail that is ideal. If not check the front door sills, it's the next best thing. Simple install with adapter. There are a bunch of threads on this. Here is a pic I posted in another thread of the harness under the sill plate.
Do the lights flash with your turning signals? would it be difficult to do this if not?
Not if he tapped into the license plate lights for the power.
To have them flash with the turn signals, you'd have to tap into one of the turn signal power sources. Either front, rear, or trailer which could cause some minor issues.
agree with some previous posts. tapping into the taillights can cause other components to go haywire. had bad experience with that. looks awesome, great work and thanks for sharing how you did it.
Your mirror light flashes with your turn signals, why would the running board lights be different?
This is true. It's just my luck though that some cop knows something that I don't and give me a ticket. I inadvertently break the law sometimes. I don't need any more trouble than I am usually in.
Slik, looks great. Can you link us to the amber led assemblies you used for the running board brackets? How did you decide on the height on the bracket where you mounted them? Any concern about them not being visible at certain angles with them being mounted up so high? I guess not for the majority of vehicles since these trucks sit so high.

Thank you! I put them a half inch below the cab, hopefully high enough so nobody kicks them when getting in and out of my truck. You can really see the lights at almost any angle. The height is good for all the little cars that like to get close to me when driving around the Norfolk area. Drivers here are really scary.
