I don't pull a fifth wheel or gooseneck right now, but I tend to keep a truck a very long time. I don't if in the future I'd like to upgrade my travel trailer to a fifth wheel. Would it be worth going ahead and getting the fifth wheel prep package on an order, or is it easy to add later?
It is not hard to add. I have had the B&W companion of previous trucks; works fine. At this point the 5th wheel prep will cause a delay. In my case, F-450, I don't have a choice, it's standard.
I had a dealer add the Ford 5th wheel prep after the fact and it was $700 for just the underbed hitch mounting plate and the 7 pin connector in the bed. It's an additional $600+ just to add the 12 pin connector in the bed and associated wiring for the trailer TPMS after the fact. Ask me how I know.... Much cheaper to check the box for 5th wheel prep when the truck is being built. $500 option includes hitch and all wiring (7 pin + 12 pin if equipped with Ultimate Trailer Tow package) in the bed from day 1 with a warranty.

I don’t pull one now and no plan in the future, but I added just in case and primarily for the added power connections in the bed with fifth wheel option. You get with camper package as well.
I placed an order for a new F250 August 31, 2021 with the 5th wheel prep package. I watched several similarly configured trucks without the 5th wheel prep scheduled and built while I waited.
In mid November I still did not have a VIN or a scheduled date so I asked the dealer to remove the 5th wheel prep package. A week later I had a VIN and build date.
Take from that what you will and your milage may vary.

Interesting. I knew that there was a delay, but I didn't realize it was that bad. I don't have to have a truck immediately as I still have my old 250, but would like to have one by the spring for camping season. Old truck will still pull it though. The 5.4 needs exhaust manifolds again....
I added it to my 2017 dually wicked easy. I plan on adding it to my 2022 dually as well once I get it. The Ford factory frame mounted kit is the way to go. And than pair it with whatever hitch you like best.

I placed my order the ends of August as well with 5th wheel prep, spray in bed liner, and tonneau cover. My truck was delivered mid November.
My truck is a SCLB so maybe that made a difference. It’s so hard to figure what gets built and when it gets scheduled.

Actually wouldn't mind waiting just a bit to see if I can get a PCO. I've been sent 3, but the name is wrong and I've yet to talk ford into helping me with that. haha

Ford will probably tell you that it's not them, it's a marketing contractor that handles the offers. I had a couple over the summer but of course now that my new truck is being shipped there's none to be found.
Yeah, they've told me "they have no access to the system". I told them I wanted to talk to the person who has access. I've gone through a couple supervisors....haha. I know I probably won't get anything, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something about it.

Doesn't cost you anything but a little time. And if you get someplace with it you might save yourself a nice chunk.
