I have a Dashcam I want to install. I need two power connections. One on constant and one on with ignition switched on. Where in the Passenger Footwell fuse box location can I find to tap into? Does anyone have examples of making similar connections.
A test light is all you need to identify a 12V constant and a 12V ignition fuse to tap. The fuse taps are the way to go if that’s the way you want to wire it.
FWIW:
I installed the BlackVue 900X plus in my SC. I wired it to an up fitter switch so I can control when it’s on and off. It automatically switches between parking mode and driving mode.
I also had just enough cable to run the rear camera connection on my SC. I ran the secondary camera line down and through the sill plate. I didn’t want to run it across the edge of the roof liner as I wanted to stay away from any curtain airbags.
fuses were different but i still tapped the lumbar support fuse(just used owners manual for fuse locations) got my constant from the high idle line.
It was different pushing the line up by the curtain airbags.. but since i dont have moonroof i just pushed the wire to the rear view way back under the headliner.. I got the VIOFO A139 so it was just a single thin wire to run to the back.
I use an odb cable to power mine. It was the quickest and easiest way to get mine up and running. I have a Thinkware F800 pro.
This. The plug has a switch that lots you pick and choose. I leave it in switched for the majority of circumstances, but occasionally flip it into unswitched depending upon where I park. It’s extremely easy to hit the switch when I step out to make the change since the height of the truck puts it at a comfortable height. But also it is up under the dash enough that the chance I’d bump it accidentally is highly unlikely. When in switched, it kills power 5 minutes after the key is off so you still have some monitoring even after you step out of the truck. Oh, and when in unswitched, it also monitors your battery voltage and kills the power tap if the votage drops too low so you aren’t left with a dead battery.

Could someone post a link to said cable? Right now I have mine plugged into the power outlet since I'm trading in my truck for a new SD, so I just did a quick run of the wires to get the camera working for the time being. The OBD port sounds like it would be a cleaner install because I can't be bothered with tapping into the fuse panel.
I used this one because the plug fit my dashcam. They have others available with different plugs depending upon your camera. I liked the way it worked well enough to pick up a second one for my car that I daily drive to work along with a second magnet mount for my camera. That way I can easily grab the camera and just snap it to the windshield in either the truck or the car.

this is the cable I use for mine.
