I'm no scientist or a scholar but I do know engines and how they work. and there is no way you can add 90 H/P and not add more fuel. If you could please tell me how this is done I would appreciate it.

From what i've read, the tuning changes the injection timing and the higher hp tunes have more timing so assuming you can control your right foot, you will see a bump in mpg. From my personal experience, ive hand calculated each tank of fuel and running the +200hp Extreme tune gets, on average, 0.5 to 1mpg than the +50hp Tow tune. On my two most recent fillups, +50hp got 15.78mpg and the +200hp got 16.78mpg.

Thats interesting. I do think advancing the timing a couple degrees will help but changing the injector timing means keeping them open a little longer not for a shorter period of time. I do believe that is you drive like a grandma you will get better fuel millage. My wife gets 3 to 4 MPG's better than me in her Taurus SHO. If I have it, I'm going to use it LOL

I was getting 14.5mpg before the delete not during regen, then the regen would tank my mpg to 12.5. 30k miles of no EGR and no DPF regen increased my mpg by 4.

You must drive conservatively as the guys around here with deleted trucks act like they are on a race track but not always. Then you have the lifts, offset wheels and bigger tire crowd. While I love the sound of a deleted 6.7, they act like fuel is cheap and pickups can't get decent mpg. These are the same @$$ hats on the 6.7 pages on FB that make fun of guys talking about mileage.

I do understand that having more power keeps the truck at speed easier but delete tunes turn on more fuel to make that power. Not doubting your word but I'm sure you're not racing red light to red light either.

Considering my tires have a max speed of 87 mph and my truck weighs 8200lbs, there is no racing going on.

I'm not saying you. I have just always been skeptical of guys saying they had big gains with deletes with the way most drive. Good for you that you are getting 4 mpg better. I'm sure gains can be realized by keeping the right foot out of it.

I still get in the 14s mpg range with regens now on winter fuel. But I have slowed down some on the expressway due to the cost of fuel now. I fueled up today and it dropped 6 cents to $3.46. So I think I'm up at least 0.5 mpg due to slowing down on the expressway.

When I said racing, I mean folks acting like they have to race past every truck they see. Obviously that isn't you. But that doesn't just apply to pickups... It's everyone.

You increase the *thermal* efficiency of the engine in part by deleting the EGR. The old 7.3 PSD was at 250 hp stock on its last model year. The 2011 6.7 PSD came out 400 hp but maintained if not improved *fuel* efficiency and is now at 475 hp for 2020+.
The biggest thing is the EGR returns "dirty" air to the engine reducing its efficiency and causing many wear issues. Heavy-duty equipment manufacturers such as Case IH are switching to Tier 4 emission SCR-only. Honestly, if our trucks were SCR-only there would be little reason to delete them.

My 2011 truck when stock was getting 14ish mpg at 65 mph on 35" mud tires. After a lot of mods, it gets 19ish mpg. I have a 5 position switch and have yet to dyno it, so idk what horsepower is on position one but even on position 5 it gets like 15 mpg. Position one is way more HP than stock... 5 puts me in between 550-600 with 600 being the turbo's "rated" max capability. I also drive like a grandma because I commute over 500 miles a week right now.

That's not what changing the injector timing is. Injector timing is what point the injectors start to open, increased timing will give you more power and a more efficient burn, the downside is timing increases cylinder pressure and too much can lead to a blown head gasket, cracked piston or broken connecting rod. How long the injectors stay open is called duration or pulse width it also gives you more power but you will be using more fuel if the injectors are staying open longer, and it can increase your EGTs if you don't have enough airflow. That's why gauges or a monitoring system is so important on a modified diesel truck.

Do i need egr kit or just unplug? What tuner should i get? Should i buy the kit or separately, and what kits are recommended. I tow a 5er towhauler. Live in NC and travel to NH alot riding sxs. Any info would be very much appreciated. Im just not sure where to begin
If improving mpg is your main reason to delete I wouldn't do it. I deleted the emissions crap because I wanted my truck to last longer and didn't want to be held hostage to DEF fluid. The 3rd reason is I wanted to help the environment by not polluting the landfills with plastic jugs and using less fuel over the lifetime of the truck (better mpg).

I get 25 mpg on average running 120 mph in my Taurus. Don't need that in the Black Beauty.
