I have had my 17 F-450 deleted for about 1500 miles now and just want to give an update for anyone looking to do the delete. The removal of the EGR and exhaust is straight forward, I did break off a bolt on the exhaust manifold that went to the egr and was unable to drill it out so I drilled and tapped a new hole next to it, the bolts are titanium and very hard to drill. No big deal there is plenty of room on the manifold. Exhaust came off easy, the dpf is very heavy so I used a car jack to help it out. I went with a 4" stainless with a MBRP muffler. I used GDP ez-lnk tuner with SOTF tuning from Dirty Diesel Customs in Canada. I think because of the EPA most delete tunes/tuners are going to come through Canada now.
No big plums of black smoke and it smells like burnt diesel instead of boiling ammonia. Unless you take off really hard then you'll get a little poof during shifting.
I was getting 12.2 MPG before the delete and now I'm getting 15.3 MPG mixed driving. Running 245/75R19.5 Toyo tire. I haven't gone long stretches of freeway driving, for short 50 mile or so trips I'm getting 17 MPG.
At $3 a gallon for diesel I'm saving about $29 a fill up. It's a annual savings of about $775 a year in fuel costs at 20K miles a year. So it'll take me about 2.5 years to break even. But fuel prices are going up fast so it could be more savings soon.
in my state they do emissions on diesels both during the annual inspections and roadside spot checks and I have had both sprung on me.
I can get more MPG, more power, cleaner burn, cooler running engine with a simple 500 dollar methional injection kit while at the same time being perfectly legal.
Don't advertise **** on forum. People that want a air in/ air out truck that's clean can do thier own leg work. Naming names is letting the epa in the room.
A delete is on my radar now that I'm at 120K and I suspect I have a cracked DPF. Fortunately, Texas is a safety-only state for diesel consumer trucks. For now.
At $3000ish to replace the DPF versus $1500 to delete and never worry about it again... I think it's a pretty easy choice. I'd do it myself and keep the DPF on hand for when California comes knocking on everyone else's door. It will happen eventually.
Anyone near DFW got an EZ Lynk they wouldn't mind letting me borrow? Ha.

Washington has actually removed all emissions test for privately owned vehicles it was only in a few counties anyways because new cars and truck are held to a strict standard now. Kind of surprising for a liberal, hippy, greeny state.
I'm curious about deletes, but nobody wants to talk.
I like how clean our truck runs. However, there's that nagging in my conscious that worries a bit about all the emission crap and how it could foul up leading to a boat load of expense(s).
The increased fuel economy, increased power, eliminated emissions equipment failure are all good aspects to doing a delete/tune.

That's awesome. I do love the PNW and there are just as many rednecks up there as in Texas. Just a different flavor and snow is involved.
I'm not a doomsday political guy but I AM worried about what the Biden administration's EPA is going to do about non-electric vehicles. Their line of logic seems to be that my diesel truck is a far bigger problem for climate change than China and India building dozens of coal powered plants each year. So I'm worried what federal mandates they'll force the states into regarding newer vehicle emissions.

Im in King Co.....is this true for the entire state? Of so this is the best news Ive heard in years coming out of Olympia!!
Even though they don’t require emissions testing, the State still follows and operates its dealerships and repair facilities under the Clean Air Act of 2019. Depending on how you do maintenance on your truck or plan on eventually selling the truck, you might want to become familiar with that Act before you start cutting stuff off your truck.
I don't have any issues with how my F-450 runs or the amount of power it has. Better mileage would be nice without the re-gens. Dumping those boxes/plastic bottles of DEF in then throwing them in the trash bothers me for something that is supposedly helping the environment. I probably won't change anything though unless I have emissions issues. Then they'll be gone in a flash, so to speak.
