My trailer brakes haven’t experienced this again but it seems like a widespread issue.

hopefully the above post is true and a fix is coming. Mine is random with it, probably went three or four weeks without doing it, now did it yesterday with 30K behind it, not fun.

This happened to me the other day, truck has 1.5k miles. Trailer was only 1200lb so no big deal, still pulled over to fix

Pulled over
Washed connectors out with water
Applied dielectric grease
Problem solved

I'm sure there are other causes but I've had this happen often to my fords.

Thanks for this, I'll keep an eye out for the issue when I get the new 2022 350. Hopefully they will get the software fix out PDQ. Will say we pulled a lot of trailer miles with the 2020 and never had a trailer drop or a brake issue.

Think it will be a TSB or a RECALL? It is a safety issue so hopefully a recall that way we get a letter. TSB you have to research.

I have a 2022 Ford F450 and loose brakes everyday. I have to stop the truck turn it off for about 10 minutes and it seems to fix it . No lights no warning. This happens on both of my trailers Sundowner 20’ and a PJ 40’. Hopefully this gets fixed sooner than later.

Founf mine to be the cheap aftermarket repair plug on a work trailer wasn’t making consistent contact with the pins on the truck receptical.

Unfortunately, as it often is in the airline and automotive industry, nobody gets around to doing something about such a problem until somebody dies.

How much weight can superduties safely stop if trailer brakes go out without risking an accident? This is a huge fear for me since almost losing a load I was driving home from Alaska to Oregon with an F150 a decade ago. One spot on the ALCAN Canada doesn't advertise the 12% grade with a lefthand turn in the middle until you are already deep into it.

I don't know if anyone really knows that for sure. The brakes on a truck are designed to stop the truck itself up to it's rated payload, plus perhaps a small trailer on the back. If the trailer has electric brakes, then that is what is suppose to assist in stopping the trailer. Having the full weight of a 14-15 thousand pound trailer bearing down on you without those brakes is a disaster waiting to happen, especially if you have to stop suddenly or going down a steep grade. I really hope Ford gets this problem fixed soon.

Anyone else think the factory plug feels cheap? I noticed this the first time I towed with my '22. Had Toyotas prior and plugging in to those was much more positive and secure feeling. The fellow above who mentioned replacing the factory plug might have the solution. In fact when I saw that post i thought 'aha, i was right!'

Find the CEO email posted to be questionable given the grammar error.

Is 4 screenshots good enough that it actually took place? 🙄

This is one recall I'm looking forward to.

I haven't had this issue on my 2021...

I was thinking back when I first hooked up Forscan to the truck to download all of the module information. One thing I noticed is that I had some DTC's on my brand new truck that I had to check out. Now none of them looked all that serious and I wasn't too concerned because none of them were tripping a Check Engine light, but there were a couple that read something like "Loss of Communications with Trailer Control Module". It may not be the exact wording, but close. Keep in mind I haven't pulled a trailer with this truck yet. I wonder if this is what's causing the loss of brakes and the software fix that Jim Farley was referring to?

i chased trailer brake problems for a week and even rewired plus new lights still it would drop the trailer, only to see it again, then loose it
after much brain hurt. i plugged in forscan and it led me right to the problem, after i troubleshooted by only plugging in the 4 wire connection to two vehicles. then i knew it was specific to the 7 way plug. the brake module did set a dtc and it was about trailer break away battery being out of spec or dead IIRC.. you would think the trailer screen would show you the faults, instead of the generic unconnected message
i checked the breakaway battery and found it was dead dead dead. put in a new one and BING truck saw trailer and no more issues
battery was set to grab a charge when plugged in, but the battery had failed inside, most likely from being at zero for .....i have no idea when it was charged last.
