Mine need coloring, wondering if the SEM Classic Coat that I used on a leather and vynil Corbin Gold Wing MC seat is good. Got them off, been scrubbing them, can paint the door panels after I fix a crack or two. Driver's rest is much darker than passenger arm rest and will not clean up ... thinking might just stain / dye both black.
Well I have heard good things about SEM paint. But arm rests are not really porus material to absorb the paint. Yes they might paint cover, but as soon as you put an elbow in them and they flex/bend you might wind up with cracks in the paint or what ever you coat them with. No matter what get some metal finger pull cups.
I used the SEM prep and Classic Coat as recommended on that Corbin seat, the sides were dark grey vynil, the seat portions were a majenta color leather though, I bought the seat new because the original purchaser's wife didn't like it, he offered it at half price he paid, my trike was red and clashed, so I wanted it all black. I did it all after scrubbing it, used some naptha on it, modified the base some for my wife (the travel trunk was relocated a couple inches years earlier and so the lip on the seat's rear was bothering her) then used the SEM stuff. We rode it all day some, summer, winter, even rain. That was in Spring 2015. The SEM never give up.
I did go ahead and use it a while ago after supper, I'm letting it cure now. I cleaned those arm rest with laquer thinner after an hour spent with Simple Green, then after the laquer thinner, I used some SEM soap, a wet wash, dried it well, then used the SEM prep spray, then the color coats. Looks great last I looked. I did not use naptha tonight.
I looked at those cups, intend to get some too. Mine had no cracks though, I was thinking maybe a "floor plate with two "holes" like a "twin screw washer" fitted inside the cup for the mean time.

Thanks!
I'll update if any failures occur.
The prep you did was top notch.
Same I did less the thinner on panels don't have the arm rests yet.
I would say you are good.

Quick update ... just went to check on them, I had also painted the hidden areas as a test area, it doesn't scratch, it is still as soft as before I did anything to them. Only change isthat now instead of a red passenger arm rest and a part red, part nearly black driver arm rest, I have two semi gloss black arm rests. The prep stuff from SEM also opens pores as well as prime.
I know those formerly red arm rest absorbed oils over the last 45 years, why the driver one woukld not come back to bright red.
Got metal cups in my shopping cart.
Next up, plastic door panels either come clean of all blemishes or spotting or I order some SEM for them. I might even do them a two tone.
As good as the SEM products are high use items like the armrest pads are going to scratch and wear over time. this is why all parts like them were color molded it's pretty much the same thing as the seat cover. .
But you can always do it again if there's no other choice.
