I have a 1989 aerostae eddie B.2wd,3.0 auto w air,cruise.
I cant find the fuel pump inertia reset switch, also would like to know where the fuel pump relay lives?
On my '95, the inertia switch is located on the side in front of the passenger seat and in front of the door. If you look at the top of the passenger side kick panel under the glove box, you should see the red button for it. Your '89 might be different, but every Aerostar I've seen in the junkyard (mostl pre-'94) has had the inertia switch in the same location.
Ditto for Mikeman..My 92 inertia switch is located behind the right(passenger) front kick panel. You have to remove the kick panel or at least pull it out enough to see the switch and press the reset..According to my manual, 86-97 Chilton's, you continue to hold the reset switch down until it locks in place.
I've located two black boxes behind front pass. kick panel but neither has a reset button but one must be the culprit as I can tap (kick) and get the pump to run. This must be the origin of the term "kick panel"! If I can determine which is the switch,I will try to jump around it . Your thoughts?????
If kicking the panel will cause it to work for a while, it sounds like you have either a loose connection or bad switch. Jumpering around should work to find the right one but I wouldn't leave it that way. Good luck and let us know what you find.
Checked my visually today - the inertia switch is the one closest to the front of the car - it has a thin slot at the top through which you can see red - this is the reset switch - if you could not tell which was the inertia switch, then it is probably not tripped and the inertia switch itself is bad - I agree with Tom, replace it rather than jumping around it - remember it's there for a reason, your safety and the safety of your passengers in case of an accident.
