NEED SOME HELP

kinda new to the forum but have learned lot from you guys reading through them over the years so thought i try and post my problem. Ok, guys need some help here, i have a 97 f350 7.3 pretty close to stock it has a 6in lift with 37s. a electronic fuel system, and a 4 in straight from the downpipe back. it has a newer cps, icp and ipr all from ford. the uvch for both sides are new. the injectors are the original set with 325k ik its on my list. Ran pretty smooth. ok now to the problem, i drove it to a gas station about a mile from my house went in, and left it running to warm it up, when i came back out it had died. very odd( thinking back it had done this maybe 2 or 3 times before but always started right back up) got in and it started but sounded very rough, put it in drive and rolled forward and it died, tried to start it again and wouldn't start without pumping the accelerator and even then, same thing ran incredibly rough and die, after two or three times of doing this it failed to even start with pressing the accelerator. just turns over. had it towed back. this happened about 3 weeks ago had to leave town for a bit, so trying to tackle it now. I'm leaning to the idm but only because yrs ago it died and died something similar, but i have no solid info to point me to that. would appreciate any thoughts you guys have on the problem.

My first thought is the lift pump in the valley died. Have you tried getting a fuel pressure reading? You should see at least 20lbs. while cranking.

He said it’s efuel converted. Do you have fuel pressure gauge? Hear the pump? Do you have a way to check codes?

Whoops missed that. The pump in the valley couldn't have died then. LOL The Epump could have though.

so the electronic fuel system i installed on it, cut out all of the stock mechanical fuel parts, fuel bowl, fuel pump ,etc and was mounted on the rear frame much like a aftermarket lift pump the pump is working and the guage on the front by the regulator says it has 65 psi. i will see if that moves when i crank it. would bad fuel cause it to just cut out and not start?

It would have to be really bad fuel. When it cranks without start, does it smoke out the tailpipe? Maybe try unplugging the ICP when it doesn’t start and try again

Do you know anyone who has an OBS with a 7.3? You could take your IDM off your truck and plug it in theirs. No need to bolt it to the fender, just attach the wiring harness. If the problem follows the IDM to the other truck, you have found your problem. Your IDM will fit a NBS truck but it taakes a lot mor to install it in the NBS as the drivers side inner fender has to be removed to access it.

ok so i got my hands on a code reader from a buddy just a simple one nothing fancy but it had three codes p0475, p01711, p1298 the first two are pretty generic the last on is idm failure. ik pretty self explanatory and this is probably a stupid question but is there any other reason you guys can think for it to throw that

Kind of sounds as if you have found your problem. Maybe bad wiring to the IDM can cause the p1298 code, but am not sure.
