I have a 1971 f250 with dual tanks. Neither of my tanks are getting full to capacity. Its really weird the main tank only takes around 9 gallons before it tops off and the auxiliary tank will top off around 12 gallons. Please help in diagnosing this problem thank you.
When you did the fill up as described above, were both tanks actually empty? On my in cab tank, some gas station nozzles shoot gas so fast it'll come out of the fill hole. I have to slow fill it or it will overflow.

yes both tanks were empty . I ran out of gas thinking I had some in the auxiliary tank, and after every gas station trip after the pump stops I visually check the fill holes and see gas to the top, with only 9 or 12 gallons its a head scratcher?
Isolate the in cab tank and bypass the selector switch for now. Go and fill the in cab tank up, then remove the sending unit off of the top of the tank and look inside...should be full. Drive with just that tank until almost empty, then fill it up again. It holds 19 gallons total. I wonder if the selector switch could be an issue here.

I'm going to try this in a few day's will update when I do it. Thanks for the help.
