As I understand it super duty's to year 2016 are prone to a under bed cross/brace rust issue. My truck has this issue. I am wondering if anyone has dealt with this and how? Best I can come up with is bed replacement. I know there are kits (bed floor and cross brace kits) but I am unmotivated to deal with that would rather pay someone to fix it one way or another. Any thoughts?
I had the same issue on my 08’(snap in bed liner trapping water underneath).I swapped it out for a new CM flatbed($3200) and couldn’t be happier. An unexpected bonus is the better traction I get with the extra #300 of weight difference.
That’s another thought. A dump bed would be super useful for my business and if a stock bed is going to cost me 4K (dealer installed) why not get something with more utility. Thanks for the thought, I’m going to see if they would make a sided dump bed for the 6 1/2 foot length. That will be interesting looking for sure
I made my own bed cross members with pressure treated wood since they were rusted out. Has been holding up great, have had them in for about a year and a half now.
I used a plasma cutter to cut the old cross members off and then cut some 2x4s and 4x4s. Measured the length of the old cross members and cut them to the same length. Cut a small notch in each piece where it would be sitting on the frame and ran bolts down through the bed and the wood to secure it down. It was a little bit tough making sure the body lines would line up but came out looking better than before.
