Hi, it would be greatly appreciated if someone can help me out with this. I have a 97 f350 7.5l California truck and I installed a set of Banks headers, now the check engine light is on because one of the upstream o2 sensors isn’t reading right. Is there a fix for this or is it ok just to leave it? Thanks
I only have one O2 sensor on my 91 7.5. Have you checked to see it the sensor wire is connected up above. How did you test the sensor to determine it wasn't reading right?
So you went from how many oxygen sensors to how many? There was one or two upstream and one downstream? Have a shop weld in a bung for the missing sensor.
There are other possibilities listed for the code. See if you think any of these could be the culprit. If you have an ohm meter, I can send a test of the O2. What repairs can fix the P0420 code?
Replace muffler or repair leaks in the muffler.
Replace exhaust manifold or repair leaks in the exhaust manifold.
Replace exhaust pipe or repair exhaust pipe leaks.
Hi sandymane, it could be any of those. I never had an issue till I put the headers on. I changed the 2 upstream o2 sensors and reset the code and it was fine for about 250 miles and the check engine light came back on. It doesn’t seem to be running worse but I would really like to fix it. I really appreciate all the help on this.

Just curious, did you banks headers and banks exhaust? Or did you attach to oem exhaust? On my 94, I did the entire banks system, but, I only have 1 o2 sensor, and it mounted in stock location as original on my banks exhaust pipe.
