Red Coolant in 6.7L

Just had exhaust manifold replaced by private diesel shop. They worked me over pretty good. They filled the cooling system with Chevron Delo heavy duty RED coolant. The guy seems to know his stuff and swears it will do a better job for more miles than the Ford Yellow. I am skeptical but I hate to just re do the cooling systems. I've been reading everything I can and some of the RED coolants say they will meet or exceed Ford requirements. This does not but it does list a number of standards it meets. I am going to see if one of those is the same as Ford's. Anybody have experience with this product of Red coolants in general. Thanks

The number is right there in your owners manual, if that number is not on the bottle it is wrong. Saying it meets Ford specs begs the question "What Specs?" The exception is the new yellow coolant, if that number is used it is OK.

The other question that has to be asked, is whether or not mixing this chevron delo red with the Ford Orange/Yellow is compatible? I highly doubt that the entire system was empty. Stan, what were your instructions to them regarding replacing the coolant? the problem is going to be getting them to flush/fill with correct stuff if you insist on it. I am personally a bit OCD, and would have probably taken the truck over to Ford for a complete flush/fill on my own dime, even though you shouldnt have to pay, i have a feeling the guy would likely just drain out what was there, and just put Ford coolant back in and call it good.

He swears he got all the orange out but I doubt it. I am not interested in taking it back there at any price. I'll wait a few days and see what I can learn. The owners manual is not up to date on the specs but the ford web site should be. Of course they are also selling coolant so there is little point in asking them.

flush and fill with the new coolant. New coolant is backwards compatible and requires NO testing.

Since no one here has posted any article up, I found this here:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles...ellow-coolant/

Also found this:

https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubrican...patability.pdf

An older article but filled with general info about the different coolant types.

https://fuelandfriction.com/weekend-...rs-of-coolant/

More info here:

Have at it...

I read a number of coolant articles and it seems the guy who put the red in is the only one who thinks the Delo red will work. The clincher was when I called the Chevron hot line and they told me the Deli did not meet Ford specs. So I spent my day dumping the red and filling with Ford yellow. It is a chore and I got only the primary side done. Flushed 4 or 5 times and used 22 gallons of distilled water. A lot less complicated than the Ford system. Tomorrow is golf and SEC football. I'll do the secondary next week. Thanks for the help.
