78 79 250 front spring differences

I’m pulling apart a 79 reg cab, 2wd f250 and noticed it has different spring perches than the 78 2wd f250 supercab next to it. Has anyone noticed this and does anyone know why? There is an obvious difference in height between the two, maybe this is a cheap way to lift or lower the front ends a bit.

* my f350 supercab 2wd also has the taller springs

So either nobody has ever noticed or it’s common knowledge huh? Couple
days and no input. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry I do not have the answer, actually I never noticed the difference, but then again I do not deal with alot of 2wd trucks. Maybe the design had to do with the trucks GVWR?

Do you think there is a difference in gvwr between supercab to reg cab? I don’t have the sticker for the supercab I don’t think. I will look and see if one of the spare cabs has it to compare.

Not sure of the answer either Brian. What are you wanting to do?
I remember my cousin back in the eighties saying something about using shorter towers for a lift. Not sure if he ever did it or not.

So now it’s even more confusing if f100 uses same as f250. 🤣

From what I have seen over the years, the shorter, more flat coil buckets came on the lighter duty trucks = F100, F150 and the "light duty" F250's. Most F250's and the 350's seem to have the taller coil buckets. My guess is the in the original photos of this thread the F250 supercab has the taller coil buckets as I doubt that would be seen as a "light duty" F250.

Only reason I even know about the "light duty" F250's is a buddy has one. They are more of an abnormality though honestly from what I can tell.

Also as a note - the 4wd F-150 and bronco coil buckets of the era are completely different as well.

First off this is only a guess. The variable rate coil spring was introduced somewhere back there in history as an option to provide a softer ride without sacrificing GVWR rating.

I've seen tall vs. short coil buckets on all range years from 74-79 though

So how do you explain a tall or short coil bucket on a F250 non super or crew cab? I've seen standard cab long bed F250's in both configurations...

Just a guess, but I think it has to do with the engine also or gvwr along with wheel base. Again just a guess.
