Door speakers

I have a RetroSound radio unit with some Pioneer 6x9 speakers in the lower door panels. The speakers aren’t high end but they are 2way and should be good enough I suppose. They sound pretty crappy in the doors. Is there a way to improve the acoustics in the big farm truck doors? They are mounted to the lower panels. Sheet metal probably isn’t the best sound box.
any suggestions?

TIA

If you can box them into an enclosure. Make it as tight as possible and fill with fiberglass insulation. You should be able to design something simple that can be retained by the same screws that hold the speakers to the door and mount the enclosure at the same time.

I'm not an audiophile - and not steeped in how to make speakers sound great. However I was trying hard to make my cab more comfortable and quiet and ended up using Dynamat and Dynapad all-around, including inside the doors. The Dynamat really deadened the tininess of the door - sounds solid when shut, and knocked down road noise. I do believe this stuff is sold as good for audio

I would try the inexpensive foam speaker backing meant for that first to see if the easy fix solves it. If not, they can be used in an enclosure as mentioned above. Good luck and let us know what happens!

Def use some type of sound deadening material. When I did my my door speakers it made a huge difference in sound quality, but like 66F250 4x4 said, it also made a big difference in getting rid of that hollow door sound.

I use sound deadning mat on the door skin and on the lower panel inside already.
We'll see what these Boom Mat speaker baffles work.

Yea, a sound/panel deadener in the doors is certainly favorable, however, some speakers require an enclosure to help them project sound forward rather than vibrating within a large volume of space....hence the design of many speaker cabinet enclosures which can affect the sound.

Google car stereo and DIY speaker sites. Lots of information out there on how to do this. Plenty of room in F100 doors and access to the interior too.

I removed the (uncut) steel panels and made some out of 3/8 plywood to mount the speakers then put Dynamat on any flat surfaces in the doors. Sounds OK but with a tighter enclosure, I'm sure it could sound better. Usually just listen to the motor though. LoL
