Ok, Just figured I would keep eveyone up to date on the motor rebuild. I finished taking it completely apart today. It is then going to a F&A Machine Shop in Patchogue, NY for cleaning, balancing, and blueprinting tomorrow. I know thats a bit extreme but I want make sure everything is straight before I begin the rebuild, since this is my first attempt at an engine I need to know all is perfect to avoid any mistakes. Then begins the fun part. Acquiring stronger parts to install to build my my HP numbers........
The motor is destined for my 1999 Expedition I would like to beef up the parts to avoid breakage, and be able to handle a POSSIBLE future Supercharger. Not too much towing just want MORE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets go guys... I need to hear your reccomendationsons on parts...... I am concentraitng on the lower end first, Pistons, Rings,Rods, Bearings, etc.......Studs will obviously be ALL ARP........
Anything I forgot please feel free to add...Like I said it's my first rebuild.....
If you are going to supercharge it, I would lower the compression a bit. This will keep the cyilder pressures to a livable level. It may loose power before the supercharger though.

F&A, eh? I know those guys... are you working with a guy named Gerry? I hope so, he's the one who helped me with my FE390, Triumph TR7's and a few other things like diesels and turbo rebuilds.
Tell him Artie Krewat says "hi". He might not even remember me, I haven't visited in years.
Gerry knows his stuff. Frank is a good overall rebuilder, but not like Gerry.
Hold on! First thing before you buy anything, or do any mechine work to the motor. You must think about what you will do with it. Will this be a street motor, or an ocasional drag strip engine. Do i want low, mid, or high end torque or horse power. Will it just spend its life on the street in everyday traffic. What trans mission do i plan to use, the gear ratio in the back, do i want my power accessorys to work as normal. PLAN everything, Match your parts accordingly, if you dont. You will throw away time and money, and be dissapointed. Check everything you do. Watch your clearences. CLEAN EVERYTHING GOOOOOD. Good luck.
Well as it turns out I have been changing my mind everyday about what I want to put into it. So until I frimly decide I am just having it cleaned so that it does not sit dirty in the garage over the winter. I will have all winter to decide what I want to do for sure and then begin the rebuild in the spring.
Boss, It will be an everyday motor BUT I would of course like a little more UMPHHHHH behind it for off roading puposes. I do intend on lifting her too so a little more power would be helpful. I do want to use the "best " parts so they last a LONG time...... those are thoughts to keep in mind though ..Thanks......

For the off-road umph, you might consider a higher stall-speed torque converter and changing the gears to 4.10/4.30's...
While the stock balance is OK, you'll notice a difference if you get it balanced... "blueprinting" is an oxymoron. The original specs allow for a big swing in "nominal" values. Getting it perfect is by no means "blueprinting"
Oh, and if you're starting with a 5.4L truck motor, you can pretty much bet that you already have the best of the OEM parts already... unless you want to go very exotic with the 4-valve heads and stuff from a Navigator or something...
Krewat,
The stock rods look REALLY flimsy/thin. I don't want to take any chances, ESPECIALLY, since it was destined to be a Ford test motor that never got tested. I don't know what kind of parts they were going to "test".I'd feel better knowing I put in proven parts rather than risk it all on a "test" part. It's easier to fix it while its out of the truck than when its in the truck. I was also going to go from 3.73s to 4.10s after I did the install.

I'm pretty sure you can get aftermarket rods... guys?
