A few weeks ago the starter kept trying to start the truck when I was inside the house with the key in my pocket. The radio would a)so come on. I removed the lock cylinder and the plastic around the steering column and there was a plastic ring around the lock cylinder that held a metal clip that had broken and was touching metal. Could not find a part number for this so I used gorilla tape to fix it. It's worked up until this past weekend. I cranked the truck Friday morning to let it warm up and every 15-20 seconds the starter would engage and I noticed that the power would go out at the same time. I'm wondering if it has to do with that broken piece around the lock cylinder or ignition switch?
It's a 2000 F150 5.7 and it hasn't rained any more than usual. I can't tell that the windshield is leaking, carpet doesn't seem to be wet. I've read about the GEM module getting wet. However there is a bit of rust in this old truck so I was going to look to see how the ground connections look. Starter and battery was replaced a few months ago.
