So I believe my starter has randomly been trying to engage while driving. It just started about a week ago and will bump over for a second or two and then nothing. sometimes just once sometimes a couple times then stops. Doesn't seem to have a pattern as to when it will do it and I am stumped as to how and trace it down. I have a new starter, relay, and battery so all I can think of is maybe the ignition switch? Anyone have anything like this happen to them?
Ignition switches in these are notoriously bad, similar situation to the headlight switches. I believe one of the contacts on them often melts a bit. Can't hurt to pull the switch and have a look.
New ignition switches are not very expensive and the lock cylinder is easy to remove (check you tube) I would just replace it to rule it out personally. As far as that being a likely culprit to the issue, I'm not sure on that one. I recently had a new starter solenoid go bad on me after a month or two (cheap bwd) so the new one I put in is the premium bwd and haven't had any issues. It also is noticeably beefier than the cheaper version.
