LED headlight upgrade
LED headlight upgrade
I'm looking to upgrade to LED headlights on my 2021 XLT. Will the 2021 Platinum LED headlights "plug and play" or is something else required for the platinum LED headlights to work on an XLT? Thanks
The first thing you need to ask yourself is how much do you want to spend for the OEM LED headlight conversion.
I haven’t priced the conversion cost on the 2021 F150’s but if it’s anything like the 2015-2020 F150’s, at the very minimum, you’re going to be in the $3K to $4K range or more.
Also, you have to remember that the OEM LED headlights on a 2021 F150 Platinum are different from the OEM LED headlights on a 2021 F150 XLT. Perhaps the OEM LED headlights for the 2021 F150 XLT would be a better option for you.
Just like the 2015-2020 F150’s, this will not be a plug and play conversion especially if your XLT comes with the OEM halogen headlights.

When you say the 2021 F-150 Platinum headlights are different than the XLT, you mean the wiring harness/wiring configuration is different? Because as far as I can tell the Platinum and XLT headlight housings are physically identical, unless there's something I can't see in the photos.
I'm not looking to reinvent the wheel here, just a plug and play system that will give an LED quality lighting option.

Not only does they Platinum have Dynamic LED headlights, meaning they actually move in the direction of the front wheels, if you look closely, they’re physically different because they’re projector LED headlights.whereas the XLT OEM LED headlights are a reflector type.
About the only place that makes every kind of electrical swap easy. Probably won’t be cheap. And I think they are still working on the adaptive part of the lighting.

I’m sure the conversion for everything to work will require one to go into the PCM and makes changes so unless FORScan offers this ability, you’re out of luck because no Ford dealer will make the changes for you.
