I am working on a friend's 2013 F350. It has a 6.7 if that matters. He wants me to get the parking brake adjusted. I've done work at the wheel end side of things and there was definitely some adjustment on one side needed, but there has been no improvement in holding. There is no holding. There is no external cable adjustment, and I think I remember when I worked for a fleet that had some newer (at the time, 2004ish) GM service body trucks, they had the cable adjustment in the pedal assembly. We would insert an allen key or the like into the brake pedal assembly to unwind the cable and then could appropriately adjust the brake shoes. Is there something like this on these Super Duties? I haven't been able to find anything searching the web.
Jack up the rear tires and adjust at the drum till you just feel rotational resistance with the parking brake OFF. If the shoes are worn down from the parking brake accidentally being forgotten on enough times, there may not be enough adjustment to account for the worn shoes.
Is the parking brake pedal just going to the floor? Is yes, adjust like mentioned above. If it tensions good when setting, it will need more than an adjustment…shoes at a minimum, maybe rotors too! They don’t hold that well from the get-go! Even the brand of replacement rotor will effect a properly setup system…looking at the advice here on FTFs it seems MotorCraft is a good choice because of the textured surface on the drum...good luck!
Hi, thanks. I have already done the shoe adjustment as specified above. There is still plenty of adjustment left, I can lock up the wheels with the adjuster. What I need to adjust is the cable. How is the cable adjusted on this model Super Duty?
