So my 2010 F350 SRW has no parking brake. I push the pedal to the floor and nothing changes.. I've attached a picture of me lightly pulling down on the cable which is loosely hanging when not pulled tight. When I do push the pedal this cable does get somewhat tight, but not enough. Is there an adjustment I can make here to get the brake to work other than the adjustment in the drums? I park on slopes and don't want the trans being bound up so badly..
Where do I start in trying to get this fixed??
Should this cable dangle like it does?
No dangling, should be relatively tight against the take up reel under the dash -- at most it should have 2"-3" of "give" from the tight position when pulled rearward/down. Looks like a bad front cable or control. If you had pictures of the intermediate cable (to the right in your current picture) and rear cables/mounting locations we could confirm.
Generally, about 20-30% of the parking/emergency brakes on these series of vehicles are screwed up for one reason or another -- rust at the rear parking levers being one of the (common) high failure / replacement items. Trans brake variants not as bad.
my 2011 F350 parking brake cable broke last Spring; whole emergency brake was pretty much shot (only used it when changing tires). Replaced by a Ford dealer.
