Yes original engine and tranny truck was built in San Jose it was built to be a grass fire truck in Nevada I bought it from the fire chief son who owed it after it was retired from service. I switched out the rear end for one so could go highway speeds truck has 19,763 miles on it
Guys thanks for all the examples and help! I really appreciate it
Nice work on your Stepside (Flareside) !!
I am not a verbally-correct individual WTF (wow that's Fantastic) type, so i like using Stepside because of the "Step" ahead of the rear fender.
But, when looking for parts for the early Ford pickups, most vendor's do use the term "Flareside", which I was always very confused about. A stepside box regardless of mfr does have a step.
A few months back I purchased a '62 shortbed stepside-box (Flareside per Ford lingo) which has a '64 grill. I contacted a seller on Craigslist with a '61 front wrap for sale. Geesh he wants $1,200 for it.
For whatever reason, I just have difficulty contemplating spending $1,200 for fenders and hood needing repair, and would be a 5-hour drive south just to go look and inspect. Ugh.

I thought some forum peeps might like seeing a stout rear bumper. It needs cleanup.
This truck had the Braden bumper also but since I returned it to a regular driver I changed out the bumper I actually have the original front and back bumpers , front left fender and the rear left fender (tub) with the spare tire insert and tire rack which I would like to incorporate into this truck
Sounds like my aunt, always correcting others language, she's 85 now and all alone......Chevy and all the others got it right, flareside? what the hay is flared about it? Really dumb.
And some guys are the reason that guys like ND have pretty much left and rarely post anymore. If those guys had half the knowledge ND and others like him has they would be answering questions instead of asking them and then disagreeing with the answers. It is FLARESIDE for the box with the outside fenders and STYLESIDE for the inside fender boxes for Ford. Just like GMC inner fender boxes were called Wideside Jeep was Townside and Dodge was Sweptline. For the fenders outside the box Chevy was the only one to call them stepside. Dodge used utiline Jeep used thriftside or sportside and GMC used fenderside.
Nope no knots just sick and tired of people asking for advise (not only here but everywhere) because they don't know an answer and then when someone answers, they get told they are wrong by the person who asked the question or by someone else who doesn't even know the answer themselves. This not only goes for ND but for several others here that are way more knowledgeable than most here. Not only does ND have the books he has real world experience, By the way you need to calm down, you are gonna have a stroke
Totally uncalled for robertrpeak. This forum is about helping people. I do my part, such as it is, when I can, so I'm always confused when others take comments personally. ND has helped a lot of people, and his legacy lives on in his posts which are there for the searching. I usually don't respond to these type of provocations, but I am thankful for everyone here who participates in this forum.
Right KO1960, I am kind of new to the forum been here for about a year’s been awesome to be able to get information from different people on different topics and help me out immensely and finding parts Andy has helped me several times even though he points out things with my truck that need to be perfect and I appreciate that I appreciate everybody I was really hoping that this was a more Fessional for him if we need a lot of complaining we could just go to Twitter so I agree with you KO This is a great resource for those of us who love vintage vehicles and what they bring to our environment
I appreciate any information and knowledge from anyone here
Well, I wish I had more knowledge of these early Fords and owned More of them. hahaha
When I purchased my '62 shortbed flareside pu a few months back, July ?, I really didn't need another early '60's Ford, but was very pleased my wife allowed me to add another orphan to my collection.
Because i am currently working on a "do-over" on my '78 Ford E-250 Chateau wagon, the '62 sits.
One interesting item I discovered is the ring gear is stamped with a C2 number, so 1962 gear set.
Would be nice if my '62 looked as nice as this post's '64 !!!
Thanks Grease007
We been working on it for some time like I said in my earlier post still have work on interior, turn signals, heater core , some gauges and radio but right on glad to have her home and tucked under the cover for the winter 😊
The vin of my truck is F25HUS25531 but I can’t figure out the specific date of it. I’m new to this form and saw that number dummy knows how to decode them so any info would be greatly appreciated
