Hello,
looking for advice. I am building a 408w for a 4x4 pre-runner project. it's an f150 regular cab with 4.56's and 35's. The motor is going to be built to work between 2-5.5k rpm. looking for a super reliable efi set up. im not opposed to try and find an Edelbrock victor efi if that is the best solution. i would like to use a stinger(squirt 3) shift system in that I have heard good things about reliability and it will run the tranny. any help is appreciated. thanks
If you're going to just do a throttlebody style setup, just pick up an Edelbrock Performer RPM. It's basically designed for the RPM range you're wanting, and will accept any Holley 4150 Pattern 4bbl throttle body quite well. And they don't cost a small fortune, and are relatively readily available.
And? I don't think you understand what you're asking. There are so many variables that your question is almost meaningless. If the only thing you care about is running a pimpX based computer for the transmission control, just get an OEM intake. Do some port work, and upgrade the injectors.
The computer you want to run is basically meaningless, when you're asking what intake manifold to use. You can drill and tap the Performer, or most aftermarket manifolds, if you prefer to run a Dry Intake with port injection, and something like the MSD Atomic EFI, Terminator X, or something Megasquirt based, like the PimpX, or just go easy mode, and run a throttle body injection like Fast EFI, Holley Sniper, or EZ-EFI.
None of the parameters you're listing precludes the use of a stock EFI Manifold and upper plenum, stock throttle body, and larger injectors, with a PimpX.
I have 3 Stinger PimpX's. They are good units. Shannon over there is top notch and I would highly recommend them. Their support forum is also great.
That's a pretty low RPM range target for a pre-runner. How did you come up with that? For simplicity and reusing factory parts for reliability, the Edelbrock Performer Truck EFI intake is a good choice. Uses the dual bore throttle body like factory, so you can use a factory throttle cable and intake tubing. You'll likely need to order a larger bore BBK throttle body to get the most out of it. That will supply more than enough air for a 408 at that RPM. To save some money, you can use a Profession Products lower and the Edelbrock upper. Should save you close to $200 over buying the Eddy upper and lower.
If you stray from the dual bore throttle body, you'll have to get a little more creative. The Trick Flow R is a very good intake, but uses a single bore throttle body and will require you to fiddle around with a throttle cable and likely won't fit under the firewall. I have the Box R on my '94, same story as the R but better flow at higher RPM. That doesn't clear the firewall at all and involves a lot of cutting and pounding, probably not the right choice on a 5500 RPM build anyway.
Davey, good advice thank you. as far as the power band goes its a 4x4 si i don't really need to rev the heck out of it to get through tech sections. I have no problem having it spin up to 6k+ rpm as long as it can still have really good street manors. it seems like all the internet peoples seem to think that the eddy truck manifold is only good to about 5k rpm max. not totally opposed to the holly snipper 4150 combo but from a buddy who has both, the stinger/eddy victor with 90 degree bend seems to be more reliable, get better mileage and have better throttle response. I was just looking for another opinion
