Rear axle vent?

Not sure how I'm gonna fix this one but my rear axle now has a nasty looking hole

After letting all the brake hardware fasteners soak in penetrating oil overnight, I went to work on heating the rusted chunks which proceeded to break off below the surface.

I thought fine I'll just make new mounts, easy enough....didnt need bolts that couldn't hang anyways. Then I get to the intermediate hose, it's held on with some weird bolt that oddly looks like an air fitting with about an 1/2" of grimey black RTV covering it.
Clean it off & go to loosen the nut.
SNAP.

I really hope ford didn't actually use an air tool fitting to both vent the axle & secure the brake line.

If this thing is factory, ever have one snap on you? If so, any particular steps you took to replace it & clean up the mess? The axle tube is corroded chunk style so it's going to take some digging to find any cracks if they occured.

This might be the universe saying "fill that heap with tannerite out in a field & get another truck." I'm getting tired of going grocery shopping & having to push the cart a few miles back home through never-ending cavernous potholes while that thing mocks my very existence

I had one snapped off on an axle I swapped under my truck. Just hammered in an easy out and turned it right out. I pulled the one off my old axle to use in its place.

Any recommendations on what brand easy out to use? I've been looking on amazon, most have pretty bad reviews.

No reason one from any brand you’ve heard of shouldn’t work. Probably be able to go to the local parts store and pick up a small set. Spray some actual penetrating oil on it first if you’re really worried.

Sounds like you have a torch, hammer in a 4 sided easy out just a bit, then heat around the stub, don't heat the stub or the easy out itself, get the whole area nice and warm, tap the easy out 1 or 2 more times to seat it good and then turn the easy out and stub out. You'll need to get a new hold down bolt/vent or make a holder for the hose and attach it with a hose barb for the vent.

Putting the easy out in first acts as a heat sink and keeps the stub a little cooler to try and help keep it shrunk and pop loose of the axle threads that are crusty.

I'll give that a go, hopefully no chunks made it inside already. The rear cover bolts look to have the remaining tensile strength of popsicle sticks.
