So...pondering upgrades over a beer. Dangerous, I know! First, I have to finish the '67 460/ZFS5/BW1356 upgrade.
It will be a cool truck. A '67 F-250 4x4 with HP D44, power steering, power brakes with front disc, EFI 460 run by Holley Terminator X with Holley Pro Dash. Will be done this winter. Would have been a cool truck for me, except the '97 came in to my life and it is way cooler!
November 1997 built F-250, ZFS5, Super Cab short box.
Only pic I have of it right now...
Once I complete and sell the '67, I want more power.
Thinking I start with a Diesel Site Adrenaline HPOP, then a Riff Raff up-pipe, and evaluate. Then a set of 160/80s, and finally a KC turbo. Already have a Hydra installed. Did that a couple months ago. Have a 1,500 mile trip this summer pulling the 5th wheel.
Thoughts as long as we are just sitting around drinking beer?
IDK, if I was to start all over again I would start with injectors. Then you would have a good base to start with. I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying that but a lot of my mods were done before the injectors and it was hard to tell for sure what gave you the biggest bang.
I can see Glenn’s point, but I will disagree. Here is why, starting with injectors taxes other systems i.e oil pressure fuel supply, EGTs. I would start with supporting mods and do injectors almost last. That way the truck is ready to make full use of the injectors when you do install them
start with an HPOP and efuel. I would look at the CNCFab HPOP as well
Then, do some real reading about what you want to do with the truck and what it takes to get there and make a turbo plan. Principally T4 vs a KC drop in. Just remember that up pipes and other things change with a T4. Once you decide on a turbo you can decide if the sticks come first or the turbo. Don’t forget the intercooler, if you go T4 you are probably going big enough to need one. If you are toying with 160/80s you will probably need to plan for the cooler.
Take a look in the SD forum. There is a thread that catalogs everyobe’s experience with a variety of set ups, really good reading.
I am of the mindset to fully baseline the thing if not already done. Suspension, brakes, tires, cooling system (at least heater core new and Fleetcharge's precharged coolant), downpipe or turboback, etc. Seems like a nice tow setup is a set of 160/30s and KC's 63/70/0.84. The SMF clutch kit from Luk should be able to support it if not abused from what I have seen on here, if not the next up is SBC's 425hp kit which seems decent. I do really like e-fuel for many reasons and a fresh HPOP makes sense for full fuel atomization.
Verify you have that updated master cylinder switch.

Beautiful truck!
Id have to agree with glen here. If I was doing another I’d do injectors first, then build up around them. Springs of course. I highly recommend kc turbos. Had a Kc300x on mine and loved it. Never had a T4 but I know lots of people say it’s very superior. But for double the price I don’t see a point unless you plan on crazy numbers but that’s just me. Definitely cnc hpop or adrenaline. Always regretted not doing mine
IF you are starting with a relatively stock truck, which it seems like you are, you ought to really think about going straight to a t4 setup for your turbo. Like you mentioned if your original post, you ARE going to need up pipes, you will want an inter cooler, downpipe etc. depending on what route you go you can spend a lot of money for those 3 items! I think it’s a fairly accepted fact that the t4 borg warner turbos perform better than anything that will drop in, although what kc has done for us the last few years has been tremendous.
now if you want to budget build this thing we can help you do that also. i.e. I bought an intercooler, pipes, and all the boots and clamps for $100 at a junk yard for my 97. I took the factory Bosch fuel pump off the same truck and have been running it since 2014. There are lots of ways to build these!
Will revisit this topic as we get going. Lots to consider. It has been starting a tad slower in the colder weather, and was thinking the HPOP may be a bit worn. That's why I was going to start there.
