Hello all, this is my first post.
I have a 2001 F-350 7.3ltr 245000km and the batteries seem to get run down. The batteries are two years old and are showing 12.65 volts and when the engine is running 14.35 volts on the meter. The truck starts up within 5 seconds every time when the batteries are charged up. My daughter has been using the truck for very short trips 5-10 minutes and I am wondering if these trips are too short to keep the batteries charged up?
While I don't consider myself a truck enthusiast, I do like to do my own repairs.
Thanks for any help.
Keep in mind on those short trips not only does the starter take the batteries down but on a diesel the glow plugs use a big chunk of power. Add that to your normal parasitic loads and you might want to supplement the charging with a small maintainer while the truck is being used for short trips.
