Northeast 4R100/E4OD Shop?
A friend has a turbocharged '96 460 F-250 with an E4OD thats putting down ~525 WHP and 800+ RWTQ. The transmission was just built by a shop in Arizona, and was supposed to be built with billet parts, triple disc high-stall converter, etc... Long story short, this supposedly built transmission shifted softer and sloppier than the original bone stock transmission did with just a shift-kit. After maybe 200-300 miles of driving, the converter clutch started slipping and filled the cooler circuit with garbage. After cleaning all that out, what was left of lock up quickly burned itself out. The transmission has also done other weird things - for example it's gone into neutral at a stop before and took a bit of a rev for it to engage again (that was before the converter failure). Clearly someone has messed up big time with the transmission. ...and yes, fluid levels were fine and the filter had not fallen out.
The friend was also in the process of moving to the Northeast (had to have the truck shipped instead of driving it as planned) so they didn't have time to get transmission addressed by the builder. Obviously at this point the transmission needs to come out. But now, who to trust to actually go through this thing? It's my opinion that most transmission shops really don't know what they're doing outside of a basic stock rebuild. Everything should be just about identical to a diesel transmission except for number of studs on the converter.
Are there any trusted Northeast diesel 4R100/E4OD shops that would be willing to tackle this transmission?
Thanks
Second thought if you are starting from scratch is Brian's Truck Stop. Not close proximally but Best Rep of any trans builder I know of.
I have had great luck with Mass Diesel in Bellingham, MA. https://massdiesel.com/
Scott went way above and beyond when a shop in AZ (whats up with shady transmission shops there?) tried to royally screw me on a warranty claim.
I haven't had any diesel experience with these guys however Pro-Built out of Holbrook, MA is about as honest as it gets. The 4 speed slush box on my wife's 2008 Mariner snapped the 2/4 trans band every shop I took it to said they would only replace the whole trans not the band, which is servicable. I called these guys, told them the trans was out in the car and before I even mentioned doing the band, he asked if I had considered it. Saved me at least $2500.
