Hey guys,
I recently purchased an 86 bullnose that I am cleaning up and plan on taking to college when I graduate high school in this next year. The pickup I bought had not been driven for a few years until I purchased it. It came with some parts including an extra vacuum selector valve for the heating and ac. I struggled to get the defrosters to work so I switched out the valve, this made no difference and in my opinion, I received even less air through the defrosters. My heater works very well but I cannot get it to switch between the vents, the floor, or anything. I get a little air out of the floor and a little out of the vents, but very little out of the defrosters. Is there a way to test my valves? Could the flipper door be stuck? And if so how do I access it and fix it?
Thanks for the help.
The third paragraph describes how to test the actuator, by peeking over the upper inboard corner of the glovebox.
If the hinge has failed, a common problem, don’t panic. That article also describes how to fit a piece of sheet metal to temporarily close off the passage to the vents on the face of the dash. This will restore heater and defrost airflow until you have time to repair the vent door hinge.

Here's a picture showing the vent door actuator. The glove box door and liner have been removed, but you can see the actuator without removing either item:
