OBS Crew Cab life
it’s a 5.8L / ZF5 speed, 4.10 open diffs. It’s bare bones, formerly a fleet truck of some variety from Manitoba. I’m still waiting fir a Marti report to come back for it. School Bus Yellow.
Among other things, I’m wondering what people have done for productivity in the cab? I work construction and would like to be a bit more organized than slamming stuff on the dash or on the bench seats, etc.
Also, are these things really tough to get aligned? It’s not lifted or anything.
That’s it to get me started.. thank you!
Mine was blue until it became a firetruck. 7.3 diesel auto only 120k
Planned on taking the rear seat out and making a flat storage tool bed area. Haven't gotten around to it yet.
All of the front suspension is new. Track bar bushings, sway bar (1 1/8") & link bushings, 4 ball joints, new Monroe Reflex shocks, new steering stabilizer. New tie rod end on the drivers side. Anything that was left existing is tight. The steering box on this also has minimal slop - enough that I was impressed when I bought it.
I will try a race track toe adjustment, but the worst part is that it was at an alignment shop.
When the truck had drivers side worn ball joints and tie rod end, it seemed to steer and track better, go figure. Wheel bearings are nice and snug, no issue there.
I'll get to the bottom of it.
Transfer case was drained and refilled with Valvoline Full Synthetic Transfer Case Fluid. Now I find it a bit noisy near the rear output. Guessing maybe something a little thicker was run in it before perhaps? Fluid still nice and clear, no metal particles. I found the talk about Mercon V and LV to be a bit confusing, since some of the Mercon seems to have changed formulas? Maybe I'll drain and refill with Amsoil full synthetic.
A bit of a kick in the **** that in each case trying to do right by this rig after purchase has seemed to be a swing and a miss. I'll get 'er, and hopefully not ruin anything in the process.
