I did the best I could to measure angles with my phone today.
The rear differential is at 10 degrees or -10 depending on how you look at it. It’s pointed up. The transfer case output is 6 degrees pointed down. I used a 2 degree shim. I’m thinking if I flipped them to fat side toward front, the rear would go from 10 degrees to about 6.
We already have some snow on the ground here and it’s too cold to pull the rear apart again. Hopefully this will be okay until spring or whenever it warms up again. I’m too old to be out there in the cold anymore. We do occasionally get a 60 degree week in the middle of December. I’m hoping I can get them turned without having to pull the springs completely off.
Thanks. I’m wondering if I should order the PMF bump stop tang plates while I have it apart again. I got some new OEM plates when I did it a couple months ago. Also wondering if I need to do new u-bolts again. They’re only really supposed to be torqued down once right?

OEM U-bolts are TTY (torque to yield) style fasteners and should only be used once. Most aftermarket fasteners are not TTY and can be re-used. So it depends on what U-bolts you have really.

I ended up flipping the shims around today (fat side forward). Got up to a balmy 45 degrees here so I figured I’d better get it done while it wasn’t below freezing. While I was at it, I removed the anti wrap leaves since they weren’t doing anything. My driveway isn’t totally level but I went from a 4 degree difference in angles to a bit less than 1 degree. I went for a short highway drive and maybe it’s a bit smoother at high speeds but it’s difficult to tell. I’ll see if I can find a level place to get a better measurement of the angles but for now at least this isn’t weighing on my mind everyday.
