So I inspected my 99 f250 frame and found it to be unrepairable. There is Less than an 1/8 of steel left in some spots. I found a complete donor truck in the local salvage yard that I can get for a fair price. My 99 is 7.3 the 04 is 6.0 how tough will it be to put my motor and transmission in the 04? I have tried to use search but I am new so not good at finding proper threads. If anyone has done this please direct me to keywords or help with links to do this project. I am trying to make best of a very bad situation. Thanks
If you're swapping over the engine/trans from the rot truck to the good one you found, I'm pretty sure you can just purchase mounts that will interface correctly. As for wiring, etc that could be the biggest pain even if it's not too dissimilar. Just plan on having a few sleepless weekends set aside if you're doing it at home & want to get it done sooner than later. There was a guy up the street who did a swap & I drove by daily, I want to say it took him six months of nights & weekends before he buttoned the front end up.
I've seen some people swap a new frame in place of the rotted/damaged one because they did had low mileage on the driveline & all I could think was "why?!?" when it's much easier to swap good parts over to a clean truck with a blown engine, etc.
Yeah the entire back half of the pickup is rotted. It was an alaska truck and I hear they use bad stuff on their de icer solution. Box rails are toast rear diff cover very thin. Cab corners gone and who knows what else but it runs pretty good. I think I might need a new ipr which I have on order . I want to make this truck like new again as time and money allows. I'll probably never have a new diesel so I'm gonna maintain and keep this till the wheels fall off and at this point it will be pretty quick with damage. Lol

The salvage yard should be able to tell you if it's compatible. How much dose the salvage frame come with, like suspension parts. From 99 to the 2000s there was some changes especially in the brakes. Body parts no problem 😊

Denny
was hoping to be able to swap different minus springs to minimize cost. Will that work?

I don't know what you consider a good price at the bone yard, but I think if my frame was rusted, I'd probably just look at buying a new frame or swapping the frame from the 04 to your truck. Here's a link on new frames. https://www.profordparts.com/oem-par...05k?origin=pla
There are a few companies that make Super Duty frame repair patch sections. You might want to do an internet search and evaluate that option before you commit to a frame swap.
If the front of the frame is good, I'd try finding a 2008+ parts truck and get the rear frame cut off under the cab and splice it all in. If you could find a 2012(?)+ you might be able to get a locking axle with it.
