The engine wiring harness on my 1985 6.9 IDI is completely warn out. The wires have been spliced and tangled all over the place. I would like to replace everything, but cant find a proper diagram for it.
Things I need to know:
Is the injector pump the only thing I need to give power to for it to run, and what kind of fuse should I use for it?
How do I wire the 60 amp alternator and voltage regulator?
I am not running it factory, I will be using a custom fuse block and relays for circuit protection, custom modifications and such. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
The glow plugs are controlled through a temperature controller device and relay which can be operated with just a push button like mine. I kept the controller to keep some of its operating properties- I did not want mine coming on due to malfunction. You could bypass the controller straight to the relay.
The IP also has a fast idle plunger (name?) that will drop the rpms when the engine gets warmer. I don't know if this is also supposed to raise rpm when the A/C is on.
I think the alternator is a 3 wire with external regulator. That shouldn't be too hard. Or you could swap it out for a one wire GM type if the pulley lines up.
