Brake booster pushrod adjustment?
Brake booster pushrod adjustment?
My brake renewal project is almost complete on my 82 F250 , I´ve got new drums, shoes, wheel cylinders & hardware in the back, calipers in front and new lines throughout.
Last thing I need to do is install new master cylinder. (The previous owner replaced the brake booster) What do I need to know as far as adjustment for the length of the brake booster push rod? My brother said he ruined a booster once because he didn´t have the correct adjustment.
Thanks

Have you asked google, I did. Maybe it will help. I did not adjust the rod when I bought the booster and M/C from NAPA.

Great Idea- Here is the best advice I found from Franklin 2
1982-86: 0.980-0.995 in.
If you get this adjustment too far into the master cylinder, it will cover the compensation holes in the master cylinder and you will find after driving a couple of miles your brakes will start applying themselves without you touching the pedal.
So this means the push rod should extend just slightly under an inch from the brake booster?

When I replaced my booster & master I was having issues with the pedal where it sat off the floor.
In checking things I found that adjustment was loose and who knows what that would have caused if not found!

This is a video done here in NZ by an English mechanic tutor; he goes through operation & diagnosis etc, then the set up of the booster & cylinder at about 32.00.............he's very clear & thorough.

Dave,
Are you saying that the push rod side (where it enters the master cylinder) that adjustment was loose? Or should I check the connection between the pedal and brake booster?
Thanks

Mine used a jam nut so the adjustment could not adjust on it's own.
This jam nut was loose so the adjustment could have moved over time if I did not catch it.
I dont remember the rod from pedal to booster has an adjustment or not at this time?
But I dont think there is one on that push rod.
