Key fob issues

Hi everyone. My 2012's factory key fob stopped working yesterday. I was watching a soccer game out in the pouring rain. After it was over I started my truck through my after market remote start on my phone app which I have done many times before. Walked over to the truck 10 minutes later and tried to unlock the doors with my Ford fob as I do all the time and it wouldn't work. I had to unlock through my phone app. Anyways, got in, installed the key and drove off. All pretty normal. Parked the truck in the shop when I got home. No alarming needed. The next day when I get ready to leave I out of habit pressed my key fob to unlock truck and nothing happened. Mmmm... Tried to activate lock, nothing. Changed battery, still didn't work. Went in the house to grab my other backup fob. That didn't work either. Even changed the battery in that one. Now I'm stumped! I checked fuses but found nothing. Only way to lock/unlock is through my phone app and my door keypad. Very frustrating. Anyone with ideas? I'm not sure if I should call my Ford dealer or the place where I got the after market alarm installed. Anyone been down this road?

Sounds like your phone app is locking your key fob out. My truck has buttons on the key. You try to reprogram your fob?

I had to replace one of my keys for my truck due to the body starting to break. I ordered one online. I can't remember which site though.

You want the 4 button fob. That's what came with mine unless it's different for trim levels under Lariat which I have.

Yes went to Ford. They were nice enough to deal with it on the spot. Big deal. They cycled my keys 8 times. Reset everything. Unfortunately, didn't reset the fobs lol. Glad I didn't wait a week or two to take my truck in for that, and a service charge! Anyways, taking it to my guy who installed the aftermarket alarm. I think he knows more about this stuff. He's just in the next town, where I get my cheaper fuel.

Going to try my guy who installed the aftermarket alarm. So I had different fobs that came with alarm. He said he could eliminate my extra fobs and I can just use the factory ones. Thought that would be good idea. Maybe something happened? He's going to look at it in about week. Meantime, I'll use my door keypad and phone app to get in and out.

So I'm still dealing with my stock key fobs not working. Took it back to my custom installer. He played around with it a bit and said there's nothing he can do. He thinks it's the communication between the fobs and electronics in the truck not working so, took it back to my Ford dealer to check it out a little more thoroughly this time. After they checked it out they 'think' its the BCM/Antenna, Body Control Module. Anyways, it's a win win for them because if they get it wrong I pay .... hundreds of dollars by the sounds of things. Is anything ever reasonable at the dealer?! Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

When I bought some new keys for my truck (2) one would start the truck and lock the doors but the other one would start the truck and I could drive it but it wouldn't open the doors. I also got a error message about not the correct key. They had to do a reset on my security system. My dealer did it for free. These keys were $100 each. Talk about nuts.

So a follow up to my ongoing issues. After all this time I'm still not fully functional with my stock Ford fobs. My dealer insisted after 2 techs worked on it for about three hours it was a BCM. A Body Control Module. After a few months of waiting for the part they concluded that they don't think they can get it. Eventually he couldn't even find the order. Time for a new dealer?! Anyways, after all my frustrations I decided to take it to my local diesel shop. They work on a lot of diesels, engines, trannys, drivetrains etc. There's a tech there that apparently does some wonders with electronics. He's done work previously on my aftermarket stuff that I'm very happy with. He's quick, concise and explains everything to me. I figured what have I got to lose. Hour and a half later trucks done fobs work, come pick it up!! I said you gotta be chittin me! I'll say he knows his stuff, but it doesn't end that well lol. After a few hours so excited using my fobs again to lock and unlock my truck I decide to experiment with system. See I don't know what kind of alarm systems you guys have on your trucks. I have a typical Clifford with a Smart Start App from a company called Directed. Remotely, on my phone, I can also lock, unlock and monitor my truck from anywhere. I'm sure lots of you guys have something similar. The kicker I have, and I've narrowed it down to is my Remote Start. As soon as I activate that on my phone app, no more key fob function! So, I'm getting close to solving my issues. My question to you guys, before I go back to my original alarm installers, are any of you running a Smart Start system in your trucks? And have you had any issues with that last module update that was offered about year, year and half ago? Thanks for reading this long winded post.
