Stats first: 2001 Ex 6.8 V10 4x4 Limited 189K mostly stock.

So I resently bought my Ex I had driven it about a 200 miles that day when something strange happened.

The truck is parked under my office window and it had been sitting there for about 6 hours its was now 11:30 pm and I hear a horn beep and a noise outside. I walk over to the window and it sounds like the trucks engine is turning over, like someone is trying to start it. I run down to the truck and sure enough the engine is turning over as fast as the starter can turn it. Now the truck is locked the keys are in the house and it does NOT have a remote starter. The engine never started and I couldn't smell fuel so I'm guessing it didn't a have spark or gas. Just turning over.

I rush in get the keys unlock it and pull the battery terminal. I left the truck like that until morning.

In the morning hooked up the battery and it was like nothing had happened. Starts and runs fine.

I've have had it to two shops, one being a dealer and they can't find anything wrong with it. Any ideas? It's really got me worrried I'm going find my truck burned to the ground one day.

I have read that some Ex's had a problem with the windshield leaking on the GEM module causing issues but I havn't noticed any wet floor boards yet

Any help would be great.

 

Was it raining at the time or immediately prior?

If you see wet floorboards, it's usually way too late....

 

On the evening in question it was not raining and had not rained that day but there was a heavy dew when I ran out to unhook the battery.

I unhooked the battery when not driving for about a week or two after the mystery start. But that got old so for the past couple weeks I've been leaving it hooked up and trying to keep a eye on it. So far so good.
