Last summer I bought 2 Motorcraft batteries from Oriellys. Today my truck wouldn’t start. I cleaned the dirty terminals and tried jumping it from a Honda Pilot. That didn’t work. So I went to Oriellys and bought 2 new batteries, swapped em out one at a time, and returned the old ones for a full refund due to the 3 year replacement warranty. Piece of cake.
The 2 new batteries retail price was $443!
Thank God for warranty.
When I had my 05 6.0PSD and I had my truck in the shop they updated the flash that included the inductive heating strategy and I swore that truck ate a pair of Motorcraft batteries every 1.5 years like clockwork and they would replace them under warranty. I do recall the dealer finally said that they would only replace a set of batteries one time after purchase which would get you to 3 years. I've been running Motorcraft batteries exclusively in my last 3 trucks, but grew tired of battery acid leaking from the vent's so when it was time to replace my batteries when my alternator failed earlier this year I purchased another brand that is a real maintenance free battery that doesn't leak acid.
I agree with you about Motorcraft batteries leaking. I’ve never seen any other brand new half as bad. The corrosion gets all over everything and starts growing up the cables. It’s terrible.
What brand did you go with?
I put a set of the everstart max in my 06 last January when I studded my truck. In June I lost several injectors at the same time and every time I charged the batteries lost their charge in half a day. I took them to Walmart and they found one of them was bad so they replaced it for free. I did buy a second new one because I will not just put one battery in the truck. I can’t say good or bad because winter hasn’t hit yet, but I haven’t had an issue with it starting in the cold weather so far.
Its not that I think the Everstart Maxx are a better quality, I think they are the same quality as the auto parts stores or Motorcraft, for less money.
New OE Motorcraft's (not over the counter) have been having issues with post leakage for some time. That very well may be into the over the counter parts as well. I think its good practice to take a voltmeter or battery tester with you whenever you buy batteries, or if the store has the ability to test the batteries, let them do it.
I do recall you saying you've never had post leakage with any of the Ever Starts you have in any of your multiple vehicles. That's a pretty solid endorsement in my book.
When you guys say post leakage, I assume thats leakage around the posts themselves? My current 2018 motorcraft batteries don't leak there, but they do seep from the vent caps. Its seems every battery I've owned seeped some from the vents caps.
Put some grease on those terminals. My uncle turned me on to that with car batteries many years ago and i've never had corrosion problems since. Use the axle grease out of the grease gun, cover the post and I smear a thick layer there where post meets the case to (in my mind) seal it up. Little extra on top of post and clamp once tightened in place and life is good. All that being said those pics are some crazy looking corrosion so may not stop that all the way.
I had moisture across 80% of the top of each battery coming from the vent caps. The drivers side positive post was as bad as the pictures Jack posted, and even the drivers side negative post had a small amount.
I have always ran the Everstart Max in my 06 Super Duty. I had first put a set in it in February of 2014. I don't drive the truck all that often. Usually only during the summer and only once or twice a month to pull our race trailer. Those batteries never had any post leakage and lasted all the way up until April of 2021. I only charged them maybe once a month if that if I hadn't driven it. I think that over 7 years on batteries like that was very good especially for the price of these particular batteries. Also, for warranty purposes, there are Wal-Mart Stores basically everywhere.
