Bed Camera Delete
Bed Camera Delete
I've got a 22 350 Lariat with the full camera package. I just ordered a cap (which I won't get until Feb. if I'm lucky) and will need to remove my bed camera due to clearance issues as the camera protrudes a bit. I hate to lose the camera but I really need the cap for my intended purposes. I've found blocking plates to cover the third brake light hole but was wondering if removing the camera will cause an error code or somehow mess up the rest of the camera's?
You shouldn't lose the rest of the cameras. However, if it's a good cap maker they should be able to clearance the cap to allow the camera to remain. I presume you're getting a fiberglass cap, which should be VERY easy to alter since they just have to adjust the form.
Sounds like you're getting an A.R.E. by the long delay in delivery. Just got a new Leer cap installed today (ordered October 11th, at shop October 30th) and it has an indent in the front of the cap for the factory mounted light and camera. No clearance issues.
Interested in selling the brake light with the camera or trading for one without the camera? I would be interested. Just need to see if it can be added after the fact I'm assuming there's a harness for it already there.
You can turn that camera off in Forscan I believe. But if you remove it without removing it in forscan you will generate an error.

I am thinking about that, but need to figure a way without drilling a hole in a brand new cap.
That's helpful info. I've got the forescan dongle but haven't done anything with it yet. Once the snow hits I'll have time to play with it a bit as I definitely want to enable some features and disable a few others.
Yeah, it's an A.R.E. CX. I wonder why the difference in delivery time between the ARE's and the Leer's? I'll check with the installer on possibly leaving it there, but in reality it's useless at that point anyway unless you want to look at the front of your cap.
The difference in delivery was one of the main reasons I went with the Leer. That and also the Leer was a couple hundred less than a comparably equipped ARE, even though you have to pay for installation with the Leer. My options from both were a little limited since I have the long bed.
