I have a 72 F100, I am trying to remove the C6 transmission. There is a crossmember forward from the transmission mount. Transmission will not come out without taking this off. I took out all 8 bolts and started hammering it from the back thinking it should slide from front but after maybe couple of inches of forward movement it stopped. It is wedged in there really good. Is there a trick to getting this out? I jacked the truck up from the front where the front suspension is suspended thinking maybe it would loosen up but no luck.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I helped a buddy with his old Ranger. Can't remember the model year (1968?) but we did it around 1976. IIRC, you are on the right track. We used a big hammer but hit one side forward, the opposite side backward. Hope this helps you.
Looking closer at it, it would not come off from the front. The brake distribution block and lines were in the way. I knocked it back and it came off the I beam pivot locations and it got loose. It dropped down but it will not come off. I did not want to force it as i was afraid of messing up the brake lines. I think with it down I can get the C6 out. Just have tp get the shift linkage off now which seems to be another pain as those plastic bushings are pretty tight there. Anyway I will figure it out.
Thanks for the suggestions.
