I have a 75 f100 4x4, and I cant figure out how the transmission cross member is removed. It looks like the only way to remove the top 4 bolts is to lift the cab off the frame. Im guessing im wrong but I cant see another way of doing it. Thanks in advance!
Is a 4x4 transmission crossmember much different than 2wd? I'll have to check it out. I have removed and relocated the crossmember on my 2wd a couple of times. It pretty easy, I just unbolted and slid the crossmember back to where it needed to be when I had a long van C6 transmission in it, an then back when I put the T 18 in it. I just used a right angle drill to drill new holes when I relocated the crossmember. Honestly I haven't looked closely at my 4x4. I'm more focussed on how I'm going to remove the bed, and if I'm going to drop my fuel tanks before or after.
They are kind of a pain but they can be taken out, use a wrench on top and a socket and swivel for the bottom side, to remove them from the frame completely you might have to loosen the cab bolts and pry or jack up the cab a little bit
Maybe i looked at it wrong, but it looked likeyou couldnt just drop the cross member straight down because the bottom part of the cross member was sitting on top of the bottom of the frame.
So it looked like to me you needed to remove the top bolts, which would require lifting the cab off the frame.
My crossmember mounts under the top part of the frame with bolts that drop in from the top of the frame. I was able to remove the bolts without touching cab mount bolts.
