I have 56 f100 that I bought about a month ago. It needs restored so when I pulled the motor (429) I noticed that the tranny has to come out from the front because of the crossmember underneath it. I was wondering if anyone grinded out the revits and put bolts in so you could remove it in the future if you have to. The guy before me made motor mounts and a tranny mount not a good job at all. So I was going to buy the tubular motor mount and the tranny mount from midfifty.
I cut the center section out on mine then made a new piece that bolts in. Works really good because I ended up removing the transmission a few too many times last summer when I switched out the C6 for the AOD..
Not sure if it's just an F600 thing but there was a rivet that the suspension bracket covered, so unless you remove the suspension you can't get to it. Might be different on an F100. Decided to just cut the lower bracket.
Also I had to almost cut it in half in the center to get it to come out with an engine installed. Not enough room to turn it enough to pull it out.
Plan on making a new one that I can bolt in/out.
Nice crossmember John, I take it it bolts to a bracket that attached to the upper section of the frame as well? If you have more pictures I'd like to see them.
On that bottom pic you can see where I cut the original cross member so when this one is bolted in it's pretty much the same as the original. I made this one so it was raised closer to the transmission because the original one was lower than the Heidt's front cross member..I'll check to see if I have anymore pics and post them here if there is any..

Just a caution to remember that bolts generally are not as strong as rivets as you will find out when you try to remove them. With that engine you may want to box the frame in key areas? Just my 2 cents.
