.080 over is too much for most 390 blocks. Have your block checked to see if it will handle that.

At 390 bore of 4.05 or at .030 over 4.08, you can build a 410 using the 428 crank.

Use the search feature in the FE forum to find more info on these builds. It may require 428 rods and custom pistons.

here is a good thread on 410 pistons. I found many threads just looking for 410 in the FE forum over the past year.

The other thread describes the pistons I was able to find.

What you want is 410 Merc pistons. (which were also used in late model trucks.)

Trouble is thay are only readily available in cast.

If you want forged, your options are either "Custom" (Ross catalogs one, but its basically a catalog custom) or machining a standard 390 piston.

Turn your 390 Into a 428

Look for a D3TE block used in some 73-76 360/390 pickups. The block has the thick main webs similar to the 428CJ block. It also has thicker cylinder walls than the standard 390 block. We have successfully bored several customers D3TE blocks .080" over (428 standard) without problems. If you are unsure, have your shop sonic test the cylinder wall thickness.

That's a possibility, but FE kits are not as plentiful as 302 or Windsor based kits. Also, most FE kits we've looked at use aftermarket H-beam rods and forged pistons. Could get quite pricey!
