Hello everybody got a question on shocks for my 05 6.0 X. I currently have what I believe is about an 8 inch lift on it all spring. Rode good for the 4 years I’ve had it until the last 6 months or so. My shocks are shot. I have duals up front and I believe all the shocks are zone shocks. My question is will the bilstien 5125 dual shocks for f250 with a 4-6 inch lift fit on the front? My measurements are 31.5 inches in front and 32 in back. If those will work then I gotta find some for the back. I know the back is X specific Thanks a lot
Ok I’ll take them off and measure. I know as they sit on the X I measured 23 inches from eye to eye front and back. I know the X sits 2 inches lower than the superduty in stock form so I’m hopeful these will fit. Thanks

unless you know the extended length or compressed length your measurement is meaningless
I think these are the wrong size shocks for this setup. Doesn’t seem right to me. Just sitting normal on the truck they look like they are almost bottomed out. They never have (at least I don’t think they have). I called bilstein and they told me that they don’t make anything for this setup. Honestly I think these measurements threw them off. I don’t think I need 33-34” of extension, but I do think I need a lower compressed measurement
Normally a 12" stroke shock is used on a 8" lift but given yours is a 13" ( very oddball as industry stadard is increments of about 2" )
I heasitate to recomend a 12" in front based off how your current shocks setup looks.
normally you want the shock shaft to be 1/2 way inside the shock leaving 1/2 of the shaft outside the shock when the vehicle is sitting at ride height.
your shock tower height looks to be the same as stock but may not be, this could be contribution the problem. normally on a modified suspension the goal is to extent the shock tower to make room for the longer shocks.
anyhow, I would probally try a 10" shock up front and the rear should still be a 12". ( unless they have monkeyed with that as well).
Ok thank you for the info. So I’m looking at the link you posted above for the bilstein shocks. Do you recommend a different valving for the front and back considering duals in the front? Thanks again
Would you recommend duals up front with the 170/60 valving and then the 255/70 for the rear?
I would not “recommend” dual 2” in the first place.
i prefer to run a single 2.5”
but i digress…
yes, if you are going to continue to run duals than 170/60 for the front.
For the rears, what size tires are you running or plan to run ,
if 40”s that i would probably go 360/80
if 35’s than the 255/70 are probably the ticket.
37’s Kinda on the fence but since your front duals are going to be stiff i would probably go 360/80 as well. They are cheap enough you can always swap them if that is not to your liking.
edit, On second thought, not being a fan of more than a 4” increase in ride height on the Ex since after a dozen or so different setups ( just never like the handling) i would go with the 360/80 if you are running 37’s
Ok thanks for the info. I am currently running 37’s but it has crossed my mind to lower the X down to about 4” or so. But that will probably have to wait a while and it tows my travel trailer fairly well for what it is. As far as the duals up front that were on it when I bought it, I wouldn’t mind swapping back to a single up front but I can’t find the bracket to mount a single shock anywhere. So it’s looking like I will have to stick with duals for a while. Thanks again for all the info this site is real helpful. Btw here’s my X. I’ve been snooping around this forum for a good couple years now but never posted till now.
That’s a great idea pirate! Saves me some $. Now do you think it matters if the single shock is mounted on the rear mount or the front mount? And if I go single up front now should I go with the same valving as the back? Thanks
