The subscription for connected nav on our trucks doesn't necessarily bother me. What does is the fact that Lariat and up F-150s all include built-in, so while you don't get updates after the sub ends. The damn thing still works. I'm hoping that Ford will reverse current course and switch all the Syn4 2022s to built in. From what I've been seeing so far it's purely software, and I think controlled from the the cloud vice dependent on local config (aka can be changed with Forscan). Free time is hard to come by, still trying to figure it out.
I have navigation on my 16 and rarely use it. I have a Garmin 760 rv navigation unit that I always use when pulling the 5th wheel . You input the size of the rv unit and it will take you the best route. You can switch between rv mode and auto mode. I use the truck navigation system or my phone once in awhile when not pulling. My 22 Lariat if it ever comes will have navigation.

I have other standalone nav units, like the one on my motorcycle. My previous truck had built in navigation, and just like now. I almost exclusively use my phone. However when schwacking around on fire roads and such, and usually without cell service. it is extremely nice to have something always with the truck. And built in is always with the truck. It's one less thing that I have floating in the console when not in use. It's one less thing that I spend money on mounting, etc. For me, having the built in back up GPS solution is preferred. I also think it's completely asinine that the weather function is locked behind the subscription. Once my sub runs out I'll play with it. Maybe the moving map is enough if you can pan it around like an awkward paper map. For what Ford is charging, I can just download the TomTom app on my iPhone and do their subscription for only $25.00/yr. It supports offline maps, supports Carplay/Android Auto, and since I almost always have my phone on me. It's not yet another thing. I don't have an RV (yet), but certainly can appreciate for folks that do the utility of something like the dedicated Garmin RV device.
Ford simply priced themselves out of the market IMO.
