Question Fog light bulbs

Need to replace a fog lamp bulb , Manual calls for 9140 but I searching I see a Sylvania 9145 listed as fitting as well . Just a different heat range ? Will it hurt the housing ? I can do a led conversion if it its possible or not too complicated as well.

How are bulbs with blue tint on them brighter? (Hint: they’re not. It’s the lower output that dilates your pupils and lets what available light there is into your eyes.)

That aside, you’ll want to check the wattage figures for 9140 vs 9145.

I say that because the cargo lamps take your choice of 912 or 921s (at least my ‘03 does) and I believe it’s the 921 bulb that is about 2x the wattage compared to the 912. Sounds cool...until you have sockets melt over time.

So Sylvania the brand I was looking quotes the 9140 at 37-40 watts and the 9145 at 55 watts, Is that enough difference to affect the housing ?

I will add this for informational purposes. I installed the 9145's in my fog light housing a few years ago and have not had any issues with the housings melting. My fog lights are turned "on" along with my headlight switch being set to "auto" so when the conditions are right for the sensor to turn the headlights on, the fogs are on too.

I got a killer deal on these https://www.jwspeaker.com/products/l...ts-model-6146/. Vastly superior to any replacement bulb I tried. I then did the Bambi mod.

I went with the Hoen xenon color match like Joe. I did so because they were the only set I tried that actually matched the color of the oem HID's I retrofitted to my truck. They stay on as DTRL and have been doing so since 2013 with no issues. I don't notice they're any brighter than oem bulbs though due to the fact the HID's do such a wonderful job of lighting up the road.
