After watching a few IPR replacement vidieos I see that Ford Techs use a diagnostic computer to check for high fuel pressure at idle for defective IPR.
Is there a way to test for bad IPR without a Ford diagnostic computer?
Ignore any "ford tech" that claims to plug in to the computer to monitor fuel pressure. There is no sensor, guage, sight glass, or horoscope to moniter fuel pressure on these trucks. You have to plumb in to the fuel lines and add a gauge to get that info.
Also, IPR is on the high pressure oil system. It's not remotely affected by the 60ish psi of fuel pressure at idle in a separate closed loop system (fuel) with no computer monitoring other than an on off for the pump, and tank level indicator
Not sure how to diagnose a bad one or what they do when they act up...never touched mine in almost 5 years of owning the truck. I watch the PCM feedback on it on the Edge CTS and it basically reports a percentage somewhere between 9 or so at low idle and 65% at wide open throttle so I assume that means it's functioning properly.
If your truck dies when the oil is hot is an easy indicator of it’s done. Idk how to test It officially Just because a part works doesn’t mean it’s working in specification. Even Some parts on my truck I say I’ll just change that to see if it works better. At times there’s no change other times noticeable difference.
